parents get asked this time and time again coming up to christmas. Friends and family who don't have there own children find it hard to choose a present suitable for this age child.
In-fact the child's parent can sometimes find it difficult too, so don't worry, my aim with this article is to open your mind to some of the possibilities.

Children of this age are at the stage in there development were music and song is very enjoyable to them, some of the most popular TV shows and movies right now for 10 year olds are musicals or incorporate music as a key component to the finished product. (Hannah Montana, High School Musical).
They are also at the stage were they would like responsibility, to have something expensive. This is usually because of observing older siblings or children at school. Any kind of portable music player is a great gift. Over the past few years CD players and MP3 players have become reasonably priced and there is a great choice out there, with many under 50 pounds. CD players on the other hand may seem more cost effective, but consider that the player may only be 10-20 pounds, CD's cost about these same so when they want new music you will need to buy a CD, over time this could become expensive.
If you or someone else brought the child a MP3 player as a gift it opens up the possibility for other people to give the child an itunes gift card as a present, the child can then browse the itunes library for his/her favorite songs.

Sporting gifts are a great idea for 10 year old boys, they are active and enjoy playing in open spaces, a bike, skateboard, or scooter would be well received. On the other hand many boys would love to go to a football/basketball match, buying them a game ticket would also be a great gift.
Boys are generally interested in science at this age so gifts consisting of telescopes, chemistry kits, crystal growing are also usually safe bets.

Eating, drinking, wee-ing, crawling, walking, crying, etc. Each doll has its own unique features and buying a suitable one really comes down to asking the parent which dolls the child likes and probably which one you could purchase that she hasn't already got.
Another great gift idea is to find out which dolls the child already has, and then finding some accessory packs for that doll, most dolls available now have accessories that don't come with the doll. You know the child will like this present as they already have the doll and play with it. You are adding to the enjoyment of playing with that doll.
Girls like boys at this age are inquisitive and like to learn. Buying a gift about science, problem solving is also a good idea.
All in all buying a gift for a ten year old can be a very enjoyable experience. You may be surprised at what gifts you can purchase these days.
